Finding and ordering images
Use (in the left window) to find images within our main collection or alternatively find images on our Design ideas page. Record the Image Number of a picture you would like.
If you want us to search the rest of our collection (180,000 images not on our web site) for you, please e-mail us . We will send low resolution images as an e-mail attachment for you to select from. There is no charge for this service.
For a quote on our high resolution image files or to order images, just e-mail us.
Prices
Licensing fees vary according to image use. In general, the smaller the image and the smaller the print run, the lower the fee. Please e-mail us with your intended use and we will negotiate pricing with you.

Quality of images
Images viewed on this web site are low resolution JPEG files that download quickly for searching. However, the original images are quality transparencies, negatives, art work, or RGB TIFF files (minimum size of 25 MB for colour images).
If you copy our web site images, in particular the Previews, you will find they look OK when viewed on your screen, and they may be adequate when printed for projects and composing documents. They are not suitable for enlargement or quality printing.
You must retain the copyright message (if present) on any images you use.
Obtaining quality images
Quality images can be licensed for almost any purpose. Please e-mail us and we will negotiate a licensing price with you. See also Terms of Trade.

Delivery policy
We endeavour to dispatch licensed images within one working day (New Zealand time) of receiving your order. Dispatch is by e-mail attachment or on CD via courier.
Refund/return policy
Natural Sciences Image Library warrants that image files and CDs will be free from defects in material and workmanship for 30 days from dispatch. If images or CDs are found to be defective we will replace them. You must take your own precautions to ensure that files or information you select or receive from us are free of viruses, worms or anything else damaging, and you assume the full cost of necessary repair, servicing or correction due to the use of this material. Should a dispute arise, refund of the purchase price is at our discretion.

Terms of trade
Here's an overview of image use, licensing details and fees, file sizes, specifications and conditions. You must agree to our terms of trade before licensing the use of our images.
Images in this library are the property of Natural Sciences Image Library and other contributing photographers, and are therefore copyright.
1. Limited use of Thumbnail and Preview images
Thumbnail and Preview images in this library may be downloaded and used for the following purposes:
- student project and assignment work
- personal research work
- as placeholders when composing documents ('comping')
on the condition that:
- the images are not manipulated by rotating, cropping, reflecting, skewing or resampling (however they may be resized)
- the images are not re-distributed
and that:
- any copyright messages (if present) remain on the image.
2. Licensing the use of images
If you wish to use any of the images from this image library for web pages, publications, brochures, TV, graphic design, enlargements or for any other purpose (excluding the 'Limited use of Thumbnail and Preview images' as described above) there is a licensing fee. This fee applies to the use of the whole or any part of the image, altered or not.
All images in this library are archived as high quality, 300dpi, RGB TIFF images (which we covert to JPEG files when required). We will send them to you as e-mail attachments or by courier on CD (both Mac and PC compatible), if requested. We aim to send files within one working day (New Zealand time) of receiving your request.
3. Licensing fees
Licensing fees vary according to image use. In general, the smaller the image and the smaller the print run, the lower the fee. Please contact us by phone or e-mail with your intended use and we will negotiate pricing with you.
All fees are GST (New Zealand Goods and Services Tax) inclusive and licensing is subject to the terms and conditions listed below. You must agree to our Terms of trade and specifically the Terms and Conditions when you place an order for images.
Prices are negotiable when more than five images are being licensed on one occasion. We are also happy to negotiate prices based on your needs and circumstances. Please phone or e-mail us.
Copyright
Copyright to images remains the property of photographers who contribute to our image library.
Licensing
When you license images from us, either across the web or on CD, you are licensing the non-exclusive use of them. The images can be used in almost any situation, e.g. on web sites, in advertising and promotional materials, on and in books, magazines, CDs, posters, greeting cards, brochures, packaging, billboards, television and exhibits.
Licensing of images is limited solely to a one-time reproduction in a print run, edition, programme or publication or one 'page' of a web site. If you decide to reuse the image, you must re-license it. Licensed images may not be used on more than one computer and may not be distributed. You may however make one copy of the image file for backup purposes only and use this copy if the original file becomes defective, destroyed or lost.
You may not:
- Use images in defamatory, pornographic, libelous or any other unlawful materials
- Use images in photolibraries, for resale, or for sublicensing
- Use images for re-distribution or copying to others in any medium
- Use images in or as a trademark or service mark
- Make images available for downloading, e.g. in website templates
- Use images in an unlawful manner.
It is your responsibility as client to ensure that model releases have been secured and rights of use have been cleared before images are used. If you have doubts about the use of an image, discuss with us first.
Licensing rights are strictly limited to the use nominated by you when you order.
Licensing images does not give you exclusive rights to them. However, exclusive rights to images are negotiable. Please contact us.
A copy of the relevant publication (or a representative portion of the publication, so called 'tear sheets' or the web site address) containing any image supplied must be sent to Natural Sciences Image Library within two weeks of publication or going online or live.
Images within the Library have associated captions and keywords. These have been gathered and prepared with care. However, Natural Sciences Image Library makes no guarantee that the information is current, correct, reliable or relevant to your end use.
Natural Sciences Image Library makes no warranty, express or implied as to the suitability of images, captions and keywords for a particular purpose. Neither Educational Solutions Ltd or contributing photographers are liable to you or any other person or entity for any direct, indirect, consequential or incidental or any other damages arising from the use of licensed images, their captions or keywords or otherwise.
Credits
The following credit must appear adjacent to the image, or on a credits page / screen:
© (YEAR) Contributing photographer, Natural Sciences Image Library
where 'YEAR' should be replaced by the year and 'Contributing photographer' should be replaced with the photographer's name. The photographer's name (if present) will be found within the caption field of the image.
Non-endorsement
If an image features a person in such a way that it implies endorsement or use of a service or product by the person, or is potentially unflattering or controversial in the way it is used, then you must print a statement which indicates that the person is a model and is used for illustrative purposes only.

We offer links to other sites. These links are provided for convenience and should not be taken as endorsement, recommendation, preference or approval by us of these sites. Nor are we responsible for the content of any linked sites.

Termination of agreement
This image licence will terminate automatically without notice from Natural Sciences Image Library if you or your employer fail to comply with any provision of this agreement. Upon termination you must immediately stop using the image(s), return the images to Natural Sciences Image Library and destroy all stored or electronic versions of the images.
Changes to these conditions
We reserve the right to change our Terms of Trade, Terms and Conditions, prices, and policies without notice.
Law
This agreement shall be governed and interpreted by the laws of New Zealand.
